Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the most prevalent chemical compounds in the cannabis plant. Unlike the more famous molecule, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD is completely non-psychoactive.

How CBD Works: The Body's Endocannabinoid System

Most predominant inside the resin glands (trichomes) of the female cannabis plant, CBD is one of over 80 chemical compounds known as cannabinoids. Cannabinoids are agonists that bind to special receptors on your cells, called cannabinoid receptors.

Certain receptors are heavily concentrated in the central nervous system, while others are found in almost every organ of the body. Cannabinoid receptors are also found in the skin, digestive tract, and even in the reproductive organs.

You can think of agonists as keys and cannabinoid receptors as locks. By consuming CBD, you are taking in agonists that interact with different "locks" within the body's cells. Together, these cell receptors make up the larger endocannabinoid system (ECS).

The ECS is a vast network of cell receptor proteins with many functions. Some describe the ECS as the greatest neurotransmitter system in the body. It enhances: Mood, Memory, Motor control, Immune function, Reproduction, Pain perception, Appetite, Sleep, Bone development.

Recommended CBD Dosage For Specific Ailments

CBD is a major non-psychotomimetic compound of the Cannabis Sativa plant. It provides many health and medicinal benefits similar to that of Cannabis, but contains no THC. Therefore, CBD is completely legal in all 50 states. CBD has been shown to carry neuroprotective and neurogenic effects as well as anxiolytic or relaxing effects in humans and animals. It is also currently being used to treat many mental and autoimmune disorders and the current use of CBD as an anti-cancer drug has been shown to be extremely promising. CBD has also been shown to be a great resource when it comes to chronic pain management and as an epilepsy treatment in children because of its amazing effects on the body without the “high” THC gives.


CBD dosage can only be “recommended” and not certain because each person’s body varies. Therefore, it is best to see how your body reacts to CBD and adjust your dosage accordingly. However, we can give a guideline for dosing for specific ailments based off of research, which can be seen here, and the most commonly used dose for that ailment. These doses include:

  • Chronic pain – 20mg daily
  • Epilepsy – 200 to 300mg daily
  • Glaucoma – 20 to 40mg daily
  • Schizophrenia – 100 to 200mg daily
  • Cancer – 100 to 200mg twice a day
  • Sleeping disorders – 50 to 150mg daily
  • Multiple sclerosis – 20 to 100mg daily
  • Anorexia – 15mg daily
  • Addiction – 200mg daily
  • Anxiety – 100mg daily
  • Depression – 100mg daily
  • Arthritis – 10mg daily

Again, this is only a recommended CBD dosage list. Every person is different and it is best to see how your body reacts and adjust accordingly. However, this is a great place to start. To see your results faster, you can take two of your CBD dosage recommendation daily for two to three days to help build the CBD up in your system faster. You can not overdose on CBD so it is safe but it is best to lower your dose to the correct CBD dosage after those first few days.
